Expedition Timeline

True adventure-seekers know small, sleepy New Zealand as one of the world's premier destinations for non-stop, heart-pumping thrills, which this Extreme Adventure delivers in spades. Begin in Rotorua with a cruise on Lake Tarawera, followed by a mountain bike ride through the Whakarewarewa Redwood Forest. At the base of Mount Tarawera, your mountain guide leads you on an intense run into the crater. Raft through a gorge and down three waterfalls, and then take a helicopter to a remote section of the Kaituna River, where you sledge or river-board your way through the pristine landscape and, later, twist and turn through its reaches by jet boat. End your exhilarating New Zealand encounter with a climb of Mount Ruapehu's Crater Lake, leaving enough time for a bungy jump.

Days 1-2

Arrive Rotorua, New Zealand/ Whakarewarewa Redwood Forest

After meeting with your upon your arrival in Rotorua, your expedition begins with an afternoon cruise on Lake Tarawera complete with rainbow trout fishing, followed by a cultural performance.

With GT full-suspension mountain bikes in tow, set out for Whakarewarewa Redwood Forest the next morning. Among the best biking reserves in New Zealand, the rainforest sports 62 miles of purpose-built tracks for riders of all levels. Ride to the base of Mount Tarawera and meet your guide to the volcanic mountain for an exciting run into the crater. End the day with an exhilarating downhill ride along the main access roads.

Day 3

Kaituna River

Meet your rafting guide before making the short drive to Okere Falls and the start of the Kaituna River. Cruise through a stunning gorge filled with waterfalls of varying heights, one the tallest commercially rafted in the world. Next up, heli-luging from a remote section of the Kaituna. After your helicopter transfer, learn a proper sledge or river-boarding technique before kicking and spinning your way through the untouched landscape. Meet your jet boat driver for the final leg of today’s heart-thumping excursion, during which you endure high-speed twists and turns before refueling over lunch and returning to your hotel.

Day 4

Tongariro National Park

Today, embark on a climb of Mount Ruapehu’s Crater Lake in Tongariro National Park. Located between the active volcano’s peaks, it fills with water between eruptions. Skirt its volcanic and glacial terrain on your quest to reach the top. Spend seven hours hiking before returning to Rotorua.

Day 5

Queenstown

After breakfast, depart Rotorua for Queenstown, where you spend the afternoon as you choose — perhaps even bungy jumping or paragliding from Bob’s Peak.

Queenstown

Set out on a full-day all-terrain vehicle tour of Queenstown, starting at the gold workings on the Kawarau River and progressing up the mountains. The next day is free to relax or pursue any final opportunities for adventure; your expedition guide is ready with recommendations.

Arrive Queenstown

After breakfast, depart the hotel for the Queenstown airport to catch your flight to Auckland, followed by your onward flight home.
